European Football Championship: Remote workflows behind the scenes

The host broadcaster of the European Football Championships had to adapt its working methods to the pandemic - and made increased use of remote workflows.
The International Broadcast Center usually plays a central role at major sporting events such as the European Football Championships. Such an IBC usually houses comprehensive broadcast technology such as control rooms, control rooms, servers, monitoring and transcoding systems, uplinks - and much more. The IBC is also a temporary base for broadcasters from all over the world. The IBC for the European Football Championships in Amsterdam also has all of this functionality, but it was set up in a completely different way than in previous years.

SWR invests in the future with agile workflows

The SWR broadcasting corporation boasts 12 regional studios and three broadcasting centres located in Stuttgart, Mainz and Baden-Baden. As a member of the ARD public service broadcasting group in south-west Germany, SWR produces state-wide programming for the German federal states of Baden-Württemberg and Rhineland-Palatinate. Moreover, in its role as an ARD member, SWR is also involved in collaborative television programming on the channels Das Erste, Kika, Arte, Phoenix, 3sat, One and Tagesschau24. In SWR’s regional studios, the editing teams focus predominantly on preparing state- and region-specific programming and reports.
In addition to linear TV, online content and social media are gaining in importance. This has a direct impact on the formats produced as well as on technical requirements and working structures. A key priority for SWR is to create tailored solutions for the various distribution channels. At the same time, there is a clear need to standardise editing processes and establish centralised structures in order to optimise internal processes.

News Localization with TitleTool

May 11, 2022, Cologne - swissinfo.ch is the international online service of the Swiss public broadcaster SRG Group. 60 editors provide independent online reporting worldwide on current topics from politics, business, science, culture and society with a connection to Switzerland. External sources, information from the SRG Group and our own contributions form the basis for this. Many Swiss citizens living abroad and people interested in Switzerland who want to obtain independent information make active use of this service. The topicality and authenticity of the contributions as well as the debates on the website and the discussion on social media are just as important as the comprehensibility of the video content. This not only applies to the content that the editors prepare thematically, but the language and format are also essential in order to reach the target groups abroad and on their platforms. Translations into up to 10 languages are planned for this purpose - and according to swissinfo, that is almost 75% of the global internet community that can be reached in this way.
