May 11, 2022, Cologne - swissinfo.ch is the international online service of the Swiss public broadcaster SRG Group. 60 editors provide independent online reporting worldwide on current topics from politics, business, science, culture and society with a connection to Switzerland. External sources, information from the SRG Group and our own contributions form the basis for this. Many Swiss citizens living abroad and people interested in Switzerland who want to obtain independent information make active use of this service. The topicality and authenticity of the contributions as well as the debates on the website and the discussion on social media are just as important as the comprehensibility of the video content. This not only applies to the content that the editors prepare thematically, but the language and format are also essential in order to reach the target groups abroad and on their platforms. Translations into up to 10 languages are planned for this purpose - and according to swissinfo, that is almost 75% of the global internet community that can be reached in this way.
A few years ago, swissinfo's tradition as a radio station was still centered around the spoken word. With the establishment of the service as an online format, video content with corresponding subtitling became increasingly important. However, there was a lack of tools to create web-based texts and translations securely and quickly in collaboration with colleagues.
“Especially in the social media sector, we work with motion graphics and hard subtitles. Before the introduction of TitleTool, our journalists had to copy each text to be translated and then paste it back into the target languages. This copy/paste process is now completely eliminated, as everyone involved can work directly on the text to be translated via the TitleTool web interface. The integration of automatic translation tools makes translation easier. TitleTool is also the only tool that offers a right-to-left solution for translating motion graphics into Arabic,” says Hubert Zumwald, Head of IT, SWI swissinfo.ch
TitleTool is integrated into the production process at swissinfo and, in addition to translation, also supports the format adaptations of videos for all important social media portals such as Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, etc.
TitleTool was originally developed for the localization of product videos for industry and agencies. With swissinfo, news media houses are now also interested in the tool.
